đź«€ Acute Transmural Ischemia | Study Card / Flashcard
Acute transmural ischemia is a severe form of myocardial ischemia in which the entire thickness of the heart muscle (from endocardium to epicardium) receives insufficient oxygen due to an acute blockage of a coronary artery.
It often leads to a STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) and requires immediate medical intervention to limit heart muscle damage and prevent life-threatening complications.
Typical signs include severe, persistent chest pain, radiating pain (arm, jaw, back), dyspnea, and autonomic symptoms such as sweating and nausea.
This card helps nursing students and healthcare professionals quickly recognize severity, apply clinical reasoning, and prioritize urgent action in acute cardiac situations đź«€
